Please join us for the 2026 ACI British Columbia Chapter Annual General Meeting and a presentation from BC Based Progressive Planet: Stephen Harpur, CEO and Dr. Doug Brown, CTO.
PozGlass vs. Concrete Cancer: Mitigating Alkali Silica Reactivity (ASR) with Post-Consumer Glass ASR has long made BC's alkali-reactive aggregates incompatible with conventional glass-based supplementary cementing materials (SCMs). This session will introduce PozGlass™, a wet processed low-sodium SCM built to solve that problem at the source. The first 1000 tonne per year pilot plant will be discussed plus field results and the path to commercial-scale deployment.
Steve
Stephen Harpur is the CEO and Chairman of Progressive Planet (PLAN.V), a clean tech and manufacturing company based in Kamloops, British Columbia with over 30 years of operations in comminution. Recent accolades include Carbon Capture Canada Award 2025
for PozGlass, Cleant50 award 2026 and 2025 Environmental Managers Association of BC Emissions & Discharge Control Award. Steve has several decades of entrepreneurship and executive leadership in the development of green technologies and although holds an
accounting background, as a registered CPA, is driven by a deep passion for research and science. Having an innate desire to live responsibly and for following a path driven by a better future he sets the vision of Progressive Planet, and drives the technical team in
developing scalable, sustainable solutions – from technology in the lab to pilot validation and commercialization. Steve has commercialized numerous first of a kind commercial plants (biodiesel, activated carbon, PozGlass, etc.). His recent passion for innovation has led him
and his team to the cement industry – where they are using ground glass diverted from landfills to offer an supplement or alternative to mitigate the need of fly ash and ASR (Alkali Silica Reactivity) related issues.
Doug
Dr. Doug Brown is President and CTO of Progressive Planet Alberta (a wholly owned subsidiary of Progressive Planet), where he oversees all research and development activities for the Progressive Planet’s group of companies and leads work on diatomaceous earth–based supplementary cementitious materials to decarbonize concrete. He holds a PhD in materials chemistry from the University of Calgary and began his career as a research scientist there working on direct air capture (DAC) as part of the research team that formed Carbon Engineering. Carbon Engineering ended up becoming one of the world’s largest DAC projects. Doug went on to co-found ZS2 Technologies, serving as CTO and leading the development of various magnesium-based cement products from ideation to commercialization; the company’s patented technology repurposes waste brines from the oil- and-gas sector into carbon-storage magnesium cements and today manufactures building materials from Canadian industrial by-products at roughly a third of the carbon emissions of conventional cement. Under his technical leadership, ZS2 was named by Foresight Canada as one of the 50 most-investible cleantech companies in the country and was a finalist for the US$100-million XPRIZE in carbon removal, and Doug was recognized as one of Avenue Calgary’s 2022 Top 40 Under 40.
